Muku

project overview

MUKU is a wabi-sabi-inspired housing development in Mount Pleasant, designed to celebrate simplicity, natural imperfection, and a calm relationship with its urban surroundings.

Muku is designed for residents seeking balance within fast-paced urban environments. Rooted in wabi-sabi, a Japanese philosophy that values impermanence and imperfection, the project challenges polished, idealized housing by redefining home as a place of grounding and presence. The visual language centres on the Ensō (円相), an imperfect brushstroke circle symbolizing human touch and mindfulness. These elements inform architectural details, spatial rhythm, and graphic expressions. Paired with clean forms, natural materials, open courtyards, and subtle yellow accents, Muku creates organic spaces that encourage slower, intentional living.
